As part of my graduate coursework in Curriculum and Educational Technology at Ball State University, I recently completed the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative CITI Program’s Social & Behavioral Research (SBE) training.
The training covers ethical principles and federal regulations related to research involving human participants, including informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, and the responsibilities of researchers.
I’m currently working on a program evaluation project, so the certification is a welcome preparation for any of the data collection and reporting I may do as part of the project.
The modules were varied and informative and shared everything from federal regulations to past case studies to conflicts of interest. It was a good introduction to the principles of research. Collecting information isn’t just about finding answers, but also about being thoughtful and responsible in how we work with people and use the information they share.
Another learning experience to add to the toolbox!
